The Art of Sapphic Sensuality

What makes a spicy scene between two lesbian characters so invigorating and enticing? Is it the yearning glances? The lingering kisses? The soft, attentive touches? Or the subtle body language that manages to still speak volumes?

What inspires me as a WLW graphic novelist to create my sex scenes the way that I do? Well I can definitely say that I enjoy the element and art of sapphic sensuality. As a Demisexual lesbian, I cherish the moments of emotional intimacy that make physical intimacy that much more powerful to witness and experience.

I intentionally write and draw in a soft, erotic tone when it comes to creating spice. I also choose to draw my sex scenes in a way that doesn't fully exploit my characters.

Now what exactly do I mean when I say that? Well here's my perspective (and remember this is only my personal opinion).

One thing that a lot of people have noticed when reading Our Little Universe's sex scenes is that I never draw my characters' genitalia. I will only draw and show shots of their breasts or butts while they are fully nude. I also primarily focus on facial expressions of pleasure, eye contact, and subtle atmospheric touches that set the mood in a scene.

Over the years of making this series, I've even gotten questions about if I will ever go the more "explicit" route with my sex scenes in the future. But I feel like there can be a unique power in "less is more." Sometimes leaving things up to the imagination can be refreshing.

Now just because I don't want to expose my characters' most intimate parts doesn't mean my sex scenes can't be just as hot and heavy as the artists who do choose to go that route. And there is nothing wrong with NSFW artists who prefer to draw more on the explicit side.

But I am a soft, Demi sapphic. I don't actually have to see that body part to get turned on. It is not the physicality of sex that excites me the most. It's the emotionality. When you can just feel the intense passion between two characters dripping off the pages. That is the type of emotional energy I aim to convey with both couples in my story.

I want them to be able to feel at their most vulnerable and powerful with their partners. I want them to be able to experience love and intimacy on a higher level that is almost intoxicating. I want them to be able to feel safe to experiment and explore, knowing that the love and trust they have for each other is a true haven that is unmatched.

It is the deep, unique, and magnetic connection that both Ruby+Rosa and Furi+Eva have with each other that excites me the most as a lesbian author. I truly adore each of their beautiful, blossoming love stories. And even more, I love being able to watch them develop, not only relationship-wise but as individuals.
